About us

Jayna Gyro started as owner Yusuf Topal’s simple idea: serve the bold, sunny flavors he grew up with in a place you can visit any day of the week. After opening in Emeryville, he set his sights on Sacramento and met Demetri Gregorakis-a first-generation Greek restaurateur with a knack for training teams and building neighborhood trust. Yusuf mentored Demetri on the Jayna way-how we season, slice, and welcome-then gave him room to lead the small, everyday decisions that matter: hiring, service flow, community outreach, and the quiet standards that make a restaurant feel cared for. Their partnership helped bring Jayna to East Sac and keep it humming.

"We cook like our families taught us." Hand-stacked Beef & Lamb Gyro shaved hot onto fresh toasted pita. Hearty-seasoned Chicken Gyro grilled to perfection. Tzatziki whipped fresh daily with Greek Yogurt, cucumber, and dill. Spanakopita that flakes when you tap it. Hand-rolled dolmades, crisp chopped salads, and our famous Greek Fries tossed with oregano and the option to add feta cheese (you don't say no to Feta). There’s even a Roasted Chickpea option and Hand-made Falafel for a plant-forward crave. "We keep the menu short so every item gets attention"—good olive oil, lots of herbs, and heat in the right places. (Yes, there’s extra pita for scooping. We get it.)

In Sacramento, Demetri serves as General Manager, steering the guest experience with the same rule of thumb every shift: elevated service, serious care. You order at the counter; we handle the rest—refills, second rounds, and the kind of check-ins that don’t interrupt your conversation. "Jayna is our shared table for the city": neighbors grabbing lunch, families passing plates, friends catching up over a pile of napkins. It’s Greek hospitality in practice—warm hellos, full plates, and a sincere “see you next time.”

We say this with pride: our roots are in Turkey and Greece, and our kitchen carries that lineage into Northern California. The food connects those dots—bright, herby, lemony, and generous. Come hungry. Leave happier than you arrived.
